Picked up my Nook Color yesterday at the local BN. It is my first eReader, because I was waiting for backlighting, since I read in bed in the dark. I'm loving it, and the browser, while not quite as fast as my laptop, is still adequate, and is an acceptable tradeoff for me because it is much more portable than a laptop. And I can't stick a laptop in my purse. I am now hoping that developers hop on board and create apps that I would like. For example, I would like a Netflix app. I've accessed Facebook on it, and while it works fairly well, I think it would work smoother with a dedicated app. I would also like to see an email client. But the bottom line for me is that it more than meets my requirements for a backlit reader. It is intuitive, fast, was easy to setup, feels good in the hands, and buying a book is so easy. I have bought Kindle books for my iPhone before, and I was concerned that the Nook process would not be as easy and fast as Amazon's process, but those concerns were not valid at all. Bottom line is -- so far, so good! I selfishly hope it is successful, but I also feel that competition is healthy, and for many people like me, the Nook fits a niche that fits somewhere between a Kindle and an iPad. I had thought at one time that I wanted an iPad, but now that I have a Nook reader along with an iPhone and laptop, I'm good! It isn't for everybody, for example the devoted e-ink readers, but it is exactly what I had been waiting for.
