Sudden big slowdown in page turn time

In the more than a year I've used the 500, the page-turn speed is normal, about 1-2 seconds. Several months ago I was in the middle of "The Road" when the turn time increased dramatically, to 4-5 seconds. I finally went from Large size in the landscape position to Large in portrait, and it was somewhat better, and finally finished it.

I have now started on "World Without End" by Ken Follett, which has 5082 pages in the large size.

It was behaving as usual until I got up to around page 800 when it began to slow down. now it is also taking 4-5 seconds to turn a page. I have to hit the button three lines from the end to get it turned by the time I finish.

This is only the second book out of scores I have read to do this. Any idea at all what causes this? And if anything can be done?

My first thought was that it was something goofy when the publisher made it digital, but if were the case, why would it only start after 800 pages.

This is really annoying, and if it gets worse, will never get through the book. It is also a little better in the portrait mode, but the type is too small for my bad eyes.
