I can plug in usb-drives or any other device and have not run into any issues. It makes it much more convenient than fishing around the back of my computer.

Hi.
The front ports are part of a separate panel I installed into a bay. It also has card reader, audio in/out/, firewire and sata. I have a USB 4xAA battery charger in one of the USB ports which may have been the problem with it drawing power. If I ever get my work finished today, I'll unplug the charger and try the reader again and see what happens.
Still haven't had time to play with my new toy!
