Logically more memory is going to be more useful when multitasking and unlike with mobile phones, the slight decrease in battery life won't be much of an issue since the larger screen uses a larger share of that battery life.

4x3 is not perfect at all, it is better for browsing, worse for video and isn't ideal for books/magazines etc. compared with a better compromise such as keeping the ratio found in standard paper sizes 1.45:1 or even the 3:2 ratio that they have used before now on the iphone.
