I'm also a PRS-900, and I was thinking about to change. I'm also interested in scientific PDFs.
900 was fine for the rare papers written in one column, but when two you loose the concentration going up&down on the page each 4 lines.
This is why my money are going now on a 350. At least I know I can use it only for epub

But I was thinking about
:
Plan A investing on a 950 (at least a good monitor, but probably the change do not value the money).
Plan B just selling 900 and wait for reduced prices (still I should have 350 during this waiting)
Plan C get a DXG.. which u say is not good neither for scientific papers in PDF. I saw monitor is still smaller than an A4, so maybe too small for small typesetting, but as landscape works... should not be fine? At least the page should be just shared in two.... or not? Can u explain me why you didn't like neither DXG for PDF papers?!
