Thanks Rumpleteazer - I had already changed 'ā' to 'a' to avoid getting '?'.

My PRS-650 displays the following two accents correctly:

I've searched for more on this, but drawn a blank. Do you have more info?

elemenoP: what is the 650's default font? It looks like Times New Roman, except that font does display 'ā' correctly on my PC. Still, I may try what you suggest, if it bugs me enough!
