There are several of those letters Sony's reader can't display I've found. If it's a word that doesn't often come up I ignore it but if it's a word that is used often I open up the ebook in Sigil and replace the letter. For instance I read about about Dracula and every other page he was referred to as Tepeş, on my reader it read Tepe?, I changed it to Tepes.
It doesn't solve the problem but at least I don't get annoyed and thrown out of the story every time the word is used.
