Apprentice Alf's Blog is a good source for info on DRM. It has been a long road to make DRM removal easy to use (because programming these scripts is illegal in the US, for example), but the tools_v2.1 bundle is much easier to use than the early days of DRM removal.

I suggest using Calibre (since you will need to convert from ePub to MOBI anyway) and the DRM-removal Calibre plug-ins, e.g. from tools_v2.1. These do not require a command line or a separate install of Python, because Calibre has a GUI and has a subset of python compiled in. Once the plug-in is working, DRM-ridden ebooks are just as easy to use in Calibre as DRM-free.
