Most cups of tea I've had with boiling water from a microwave have tasted "soft" - like hard water has been aggressively treated to soften it. Utterly, utterly vile tasting. Overheating the water (with a wooden spoon in it if you're worried about superheating it - if you're using clean, smooth sided glass jugs or similar it can happen) helps a little.
