Like others have said, paying sales tax depends on how aggressively your state goes after online retailers. WA, my state, does, so B&N ebooks all come with sales tax. I've had other online (non book) purchases that didn't. It just depends on factors.
Second, we've been having server problems the last few days. It's weird, sometimes everything's peachy, then it's like the nook files are on fire. It might be related to that, or perhaps there was a payment delay. I hadn't had any problems buying my books and having them download right away, but I haven't purchased anything in the last week.
