I should also add that the Kindle is one of the few ereaders with a keyboard. It's small and squeezy for adult fingers and typing is slow. But it's better than the option of moving a cursor around a screen image of a keyboard and clicking the letters.
If you want to take notes as you read it's probably necessary. Having said that, I take notes with pen and notebook rather than type on the Kindle.
