I bit the bullet and applied a spritz of this Philips Contact Cleaner (390CCS) right on it. Great success so far. Now it slides smoothly back and forth again. I hope I haven't ruined my beloved Kindle.
I will keep posted if any horror happens. Thank you guys for sharing the experience and advice. This board rocks!
