On the Kindle 2 (and 3) there is no dedicated reset button as there is on the Kindle 1 (where you remove the back cover and use a paperclip in the reset hole) so this tends to stump people.

For the New Kindle 3 / Kindle 2 & Kindle DX you need to use the power on switch. Slide and hold it in the on position for a good 15 seconds then release. Wait another couple of mins then the screen should start flashing before the device resets itself.

If this does not work, plug your Kindle to charge. Hopefully you will see a charge light (bottom of Kindle) and this is a good sign. Charge fully until the light goes green then unplug and try the reset again. If it still doesn't work then you'll need to contact Kindle support.
