Softhyphen

I was considering the use of a soft hyphen, but when I would add it to the html code, the preview shows indeed a word break, but because it then shows the hyphen, when going back to code view the soft hyphen HTML code is replaced by a textual hyphen.

Code:
Soft Hyphen:
*
Is there anything I can do to keep the soft hyphens in place

[Edit]
On second thought I think I drop the use of soft hyphens as it seems different eReaders giving different results seeing from a post from 2008. I'm unsure how current eReaders will handle it, but maybe its wise not to use them if there would be a chance of the eReaders showing different results.
