a 4gb sd card shows 3.8gb free. the 8gb card showed 7.5gb free. the kindle does write several folders onto a new card and depending on the filesystem access method they use, those figures don't bother me enough i'd start looking for the 'missing' space. the cards are not formatted to those even numbers anyway on any device.

[later: oh, i just woke up and am slow before my coffee, i just realized you meant between the 7.5gb figure and the log entry of 7902720KiB. i can't explain the discrepancy except by unformatted vs unformatted space. those figures seem to make sense based on a percentage of 8gb perhaps is the best explanation.]
