Then it was "We don't have smartphones but that doesn't make us all bad because (fill in reason here)."

Finally it boiled down to "I have a regular phone because I don't need/can't afford/justify the expense of the services a smartphone has to offer."
It's way more simpler than that, I assure you. I thought I was the only ugly duckling in the pack until I read what's in this thread. I merely thought of it as a self gratifying, a justification to me being a simpleton, and I am curious to see what others like me felt about it, besides also to indulge in comforting myself and hopefully others too for being Luddites (albeit most probably only in the small world of cell phones). And in the last point I must emphasize, for it does benefits us economically, as you said that it often boils down to it...
I'd like to quote Steve Jobs here, "It's just a phone. Why are you making such a big fuss over it?"

And first and foremost, DesertGrandma gave this thread a title of "support group" which I think is a very appropriate way of putting it, since I am not exactly proud in me liking my phone to do 2 or 3 jobs only, instead I might find a consolation in talking about it and hearing others about these trait we share.

Second, I don't think we are ONLY against smartphone. In fact, the title only mentions phone. Before the smartphone's take on the world, even the usual phones have one or two "smart" capabilities built in and even now, if you happen to be in Japan, look around some "dumb" cell phone and you will see some of them have web browsers, apps you can buy, games, subscription pushed right to your the phone, e-wallet, barcode reader and more.

Lastly, the title says "Silliness". What more can you expect?
