Thank you!
This one should be good -- and I almost missed it!
This is one of those young adult novels written in the form of poetry -- I love those. This one is written by someone who is actually quite well known for her poetry. It's about a 14-year-old teenager dealing with a pregnancy who finds comfort from a book of poems about the biblical Mary and the uncertainties she felt when pregnant with Jesus.
Yes, it is published by Zondervan, a religious publisher, but don't run away screaming just yet. If this helps, it doesn't strike me as a typical inspirational YA novel. Some of her previous YA novels were published by Penguin, and she won the Coretta Scott King Award for Bronx Masquerade (a YA novel about a poetry slam in the classroom). She also received a Coretta Scott King Honor for Dark Sons, a YA novel in free verse that tells the story of a modern boy called Sam whose father leaves him and his mother and the story of Ishmael, the son of Abraham. (Although now published by Zondervan, it was first published by Hyperion, a mainstream imprint.)
