Read both. Loved both.

If you liked Alice, you might like The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell. It's about a woman who gets locked away in an insane asylum for being "headstrong" and who is released 60 years later to the care of a great niece when they sell off the asylum to make a housing project. Written from the points of view of the three main characters in the story - none of them know the whole story about what happened except the reader.
