I don't consider the IPad an e-reader. It is a tablet that can read e-books and PDF's.

I would rule out an IPad because of the cost, the weight, and it has a backlight. If you are looking for a tablet, the IPad is probably the best option out there if you can afford it. Personally, I was not looking for a tablet so the DX made sense for me.

The nice thing about the IPad is that you have access to all the different e-reader Apps, which opens up all of their bookstores. The ones that synch, like the Kindle, do sync.
