I just put mine to sleep, but I don't think turning it off will hurt it any. Just takes longer to bring it back up and be ready to read.

Regarding the 3G, I leave it off unless I want to download something. I think I get better battery life that way. But I have a K2, where the 3G makes a bigger difference to the battery life than for the K3.
