8gb sdhc seems to be supported just fine

here's your answer. an a-data 8gb sdhc class2 card was recognized instantly, reported 7.5gb free, and the kindle transfered files from the internal memory to the sd card where i was able to read all the transferred files.

and no, the display never changed to say 'sdhc' instead of 'sd' card.

and no, i'm not going to satisfy those sceptics who would insist i write to every cell on the card and test read/write ... [g]

i somewhat suspected it might work. i have a recording device where the manufacturer originally only said they supported up to 4gb sd and that only from an 'approved' list, but as more and more people found 8gb sdhc cards that worked, they added them to their 'approved cards' list.
