Amen.

If an author is lucky, they develop a following. People who find their works to be excellent and enjoyable. When an author is writing a series, those followers are going to want to read that series. The author, because I know Mr. Martin is not the only one to do this, has to make a choice regarding how he spends his time and what he writes. If the author of a successful series chooses to work on a ton of different projects he should expect that people waiting for his next book in that series are going to get impatient. Especially when there is a release date announced, then passed, another release date announced, then passed, and then no news on when to expect the book.

The rumor on the last book was that it was too large to be one book so it was going to be divided in two. Because the draft of the one book was completed, the two books were suppose to come out pretty quickly. It has been three years, with many a past release date, and no fourth book.

Mr. Martin is free to work on what he wants to work on. That is his choice. He should not be surprised when people complain that he has not released the fourth book in his series after missing deadlines while working on other projects.
