I definitely notice decreased battery life using the lighted cover, but it's worth it. The convenience is exactly what I want in a booklight. Yes, the light is dimmer at the bottom left corner, but not so that it is a strain to see, and I'm starting not to notice it. Also, it is a very soft light, not an intense blue beam. Very easy on the eyes.
I used my K3 without a cover for about a week. It was so light and slight that it made me nervous. It did slip from my hands once, no damage. I prefer the security of the cover.
