You're right - it is a little on the expensive side and I hope Amazon can reduce the price a little to encourage more people to try it out. But I don't think it is ridiculously expensive when you tally up the cost of buying a leather cover and a light individually.

I don't find it heavy to use but it does add to the weight somewhat. Easy enough to take it in and out of the cover once you get the knack of how the hinges work though. I often read it "naked" when I don't need a light and also when I slip it into a waterproof jacket for a bathtime read.
