I think many users would like this feature.
Could you do similar ebook.so patches for 300 / 600 please?
As far as image loading goes, I'd probably do it "on the fly" in script (shouldn't be hard in 2.x.x ) to avoid file corruption problems. (I also don't remember what happens if file referenced by XML is missing)

Ironically those two should actually work better with touch UI.
