Ah yes. I remmember one such.. not in a thatched house though. Aboard a US Navy destroyer.

One of the evaps went down. They convert salt water to fresh water. Some of that is used for the boilers that power the steam plant.

The damage to the evap was such it required a shipyard to fix. It was decided we could wait until the ship got back to the US. So, for the last 2 months of that trip, we were on water hours. No water fountains except during meals. Coffee only outside meals.

One day we ran into a rain squall. This was before women could be stationed on combat ships. A bunch of the guys ran up on deck and soaped up.

The rain went off one way, we went another.

The Executiv Officer, second in command, tried and finally convinced the Captain, number one in charge, to let those guys wash the soap off.

I didn't join the soap up because I figured that would happen.

Whoosh, an odor I'll never forget. 300 unbathed guys.
