At the time I'd found a list someplace (I want to say Washington
Times or the
Post or something) that placed Louisiana 1st in overall corruption; Illinois came in second on that list. Since then, the list has been rewritten (by several media outlets) and the Land of Lincoln now ranges anywhere from 5th to 47th depending on whom you ask; if you ask one of the FBI agents in charge of our most-recently-indicted governor's investigation (Robert Grant, special agent in charge of the bureau's Chicago office): "...If it isn't the most corrupt state in the United States, it's one hell of a competitor" (2008).
