May be the case with 950s though I doubt it but with 350 and 650s in the UK, Sony don't send out specific demos separately, they are included with the standard deliver and a set of instructions as to method of putting in demo mode.

In any case, I'd be more concerned about being sold a demo without being informed as I'd expect a decent discount if buying an already used unit.

If it's Sony that's told the OP the units are demos then that could mean they are not eligible for service. Sony may send out demos for free/reduced price to retailers to help market the product on the condition that they're not sold. It means if it is faulty then there's not a lot that can be done.
