With the numbers expected in the Gartner research, being quick to the market and showing people what B&N has to offer the tablet user, by having one of their own to showcase the content seems like really good business.

I think everyone sees this only as a device not a platform and what I saw Tuesday was a new device to push ereading in all the varieties B&N is now clearly going after.
I totally agreed. It should be noted that even Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos had indicated that Kindle as a dedicated device is only temporary until the final hardware matures. The future lies in the software, the apps. Nook Color, based on the spec, has an outstanding display and solid processor to compete on its own with other Android tablets. But more importantly, it is a tool for B&N to debut their apps, the nook kids, nook cook and nook xxx, which is the much bigger vision of the company to establish themselves in the untapped territory of ebook. This is not a “me too” approach; it is an approach with a vision and they are one step ahead of the competition.
