I get that "vibe" from the market too. People don't understand what sets e-ink and tablets apart.
While the new Kindle screen is very nice, it still isn't "paper-white."
I suspect, if and when an e-ink display can be made that is truly,
blindingly bright white, it will affect the market's perception.
In parallel, if a good looking colour e-ink display can be built, it might be the thing that sways some of the market away from tablets to e-readers.
The choice would then become one of "month long battery, VERY easy on the eyes, no moving images" versus "short battery life, video but kind of tiring on the eyes."
I don't think most people appreciate e-ink as much as we "the converted" do.

Regarding the NOOKcolor: it IS a tablet, not an e-reader.
Perhaps B&N bet on the right horse though and market ignorance will gut e-ink device sales.
