Just kidding, but I do admit that I think of all you Aussies living within a stone's throw of one another. Not true, huh?
Well, the rough road distance between me and the furthest mainland state capital city is about 4500km/2796mi by road (about 3600km/2237mi by air). The closest state capital city (aside from my own, Brisbane, which is only an hour-and-a-half's drive down the road), is Sydney, which is only about 1200km/746mi by road (824km/512mi).

To throw that stone, you'd probably need a pretty high-powered trubuchet.

(But you and SneakySnake -- you DO live in the same time zone, right?)
And in somewhat contradiction to the above, and as SneakySnake says, by coincidence we live in the same "city"/local council region (Sunshine Coast) and are only about an hour's drive from each other at the most. We'd consider each other "locals".

Cheers,
Marc
