In the UK people have suddenly started answering a question with "So,...".

"What effect will the new product have on sales?"
"So, what we've found out is...."

"Can you tell us what's happening at the scene?"
"So, I'm just looking around me now..."

"What is 2 plus 2?"
"So, 4."

It's horrible - are other English speaking nations similarly afflicted?
