Frankly, my Kindle choice was helped by my sister and brother-in-law who both love theirs. It was also easy as I was not aware of the vast array of devices. I did check out the epub stuff and found that a few books I was interested in were already "out to others" and the waiting lists and 2 week checkouts were limitations so Kindle's limitations seemed less so.
I'm quite happy with the kindle3 - wifi only version.
