I've got to agree with Jeremy: if you go with a kindle, get the 3g. I've got one and have never been able to access the wifi, no matter where I was. Without the 3G I'd have been obliged to move books via usb to the device. 3G just makes it effortless to buy books from the Amazon bookstore.
Yes, you're tied to Amazon (somewhat - there are other sources of books on the web, including this site), and it's annoying that it doesn't support epub. But it's the easiest for someone who isn't as tech-literate. I wasn't, and I really love my kindle.
