Kindle 3 firmware files

Amazon don't delete the firmware files off their S3 storage system immediately. This means that you can still download older versions if you adjust the URL as they all follow a strict naming scheme. These links are all direct from Amazon.

The current preview version as of 13 Feb 2011 is 3.1. There doesn't appear to be a release version.

You can NOT downgrade firmware on a Kindle so only apply firmware updates if you're absolutely sure that you want to risk it. There may be bugs or issues which would need another update from Amazon to fix.

As always, do this at your own risk. Applying firmware updates always has some risk attached to it as you may end up with a non functional device which requires service by Kindle customer services.

I'll try to keep this post updated with any new firmware and remove any links that no longer work.

The browser text field bug is fixed in 3.0.3.

One of the updates in 3.0.1 which is still present in 3.0.2 broke text entry fields in the browser. This means that you can't type into password or text boxes on some websites.

This is the current release firmware but it isn't on the Amazon support page for unknown reasons. I've not heard of any showstoppers with 3.0.2 however.

3.0.1 has some issues with the eInk controller driver which makes the Kindle sensitive to temperature. Do not use this update.
