IE, several coats of paint on the screen might do it, but I doubt a little dust/dirt would make a difference.

Ah, I meant that just the expression of the phrase was somewhat fun.. I'm not the professional, either so I don't have anything to support the relation theoretically but just my some assumption. That's to say, because Wacom pad uses electronic signals on the surface of the screen, would there be any possibility that some dust might interfere with it? As known, dusts have electrons.
Anyway, you don't have to take care of this seriously if you don't feel any discomfort while using the touch-screen. Mine didn't recognize the stylus click well - just about four fifths.
