Speaking of Scientific Dogma.

Some years ago my mother told me of an encyclopedia her parents had purchased to help her in school. ( They purchased a different one for me in when I was in high school.)

In the ones they bought for her, leading scientists of the day proved humanity would never make it to the Earth's moon, nor to the planets.

What locomotion criteria did they use ? Steam locomotives traveling at 60 miles per hour.

Of course, we did get there. The Saturn V maxed out at around 17,000 miles per hour.

However, I haven't heard of any steam locomotives making the journey.
