The best part was reading about how people in China were so shocked at the authors' bicycles, and reading about all the old customs and fashions and so on. Very different from today!
Then I started Captain Blood, which I've been wanting to read for a few months now. It's exciting and swashbuckling and I can almost always laugh at the sexism/prejudicial stuff, so I'm enjoying it so far. Sabatini does have a kind of rapid-fire way of relating a story, which is nice.

Sabatini is probably one of my favorite all time authors. He sometimes starts slow, but then grabs you hard and takes you on a great run.
