One of the most special books I remember is the Malaussène saga by Daniel Pennac (it's actually 5 books, but I count them as one here). It's an interesting story, intelligent humour, vivid and imaginative writing... I read them in the Spanish translation, and I'd like to read them in the original French (though I have the feeling they'll be harder than usual).
