I bought a Kindle 3 for my mother and while not perfect (what is) it is quite nice.
Collections work pretty good but much easier if you download kindle collection manager.
(search this forum)
Two days ago I put 2300 ebooks on my mothers kindle. I expected it to index for days, but was under 5 minutes after reset.

To view your books on kindle by collections you have to cursor up to the top of the home screen and select collections.

I believe you have to register your kindle for collections to work.

Lots of legally free ebooks on Amazon, mobile read, project glutenburg etc.

Get a dozen or so and start reading. If you enjoy reading on it the rest will work out.
