We do our usual linguistic compromise in Australia - we have back yards and front yards but overall we have a garden (makes perfect sense doesn't it?).
And yes - garden gnomes are always targets especially around this time of year when the spirit (or should that be "spirits"?) of Christmas affect some people badly as they stagger home from a party.
