I buy either from Monoprice.com as mentioned above or direct from China.

Shipping is usually included in the direct-from-China vendors so a USB cable will only cost you $4. I had one of these shipped to Canada without any problems:

Cripe. $0.85 anyone?
You do what you want, but when I do in-wall installations, I prefer to use cables that are well shielded and will last. Also have found that the headers on the cheapo cables are molded plastic and often fall apart with almost no effort, while the higher quality cables use screwed together metal headers which don't break. Also the cheap cables snap off when almost no pressure is used if you don't use elbow mounts (many TVs these days don't have side mounts, and low profile mounts don't provide enough clearance).

In the rare case where you have to run a cable under carpet or you have to bend it at a near 90 degree angle, you will also want a higher quality cable with extra shielding/padding, which you can't get for 2$.

Again, realize I was speaking of HDMI cables here
