Back in my college days,
in the '70s, there was a rash of pink flamingo lawn ornaments being stolen in night-time raids. The perpetrator was nicknamed the "Flamingo Bandit".
(He was a friend of mine.)
In the long run, it seems the popularity of the pink flamingo waned and was replaced by the gnome.
