I don't know what the problem
was caused by. The copy in epubreader was NOT the same as what I had in Calibre (close enough that the variations were hard to spot) .
And yes, it was a Webscription file so I won't post. I freshened the copy in epubreader an the problem is gone.
(where does epubreader stash it's library?)
