Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'll just toss the electrical cords, for safety's sake and for the sake of not killing my Kindle. Disappointing, lesson learned, and all that.

Unfortunately, the envelope it came in got tosses and it might be more trouble than it's worth to return the whole thing.
