I'm an electronic engineer, so I have a pretty good understanding of radiated emissions and immunity but I have no particular experience in aircraft.

Agreed. It's helped somewhat by the fact that the presence of things like a cellphone picocell on the aircraft will reduce the radiated power from devices. In the absence of these they would ramp up the power as they tried to make contact with something.
