I do know what you're referring to, if you watch the live-feed you can see a string of 10~15 posts all at once by the one person on the intro thread; however, quite a lot of those are specifically composed to the OP (ie, the poster actually does read the first post) and it gives the new person a change to engage with and get to know the more active participants of the forum.

What would be worse... the situation now, or the situation where a new person introduces themselves and gets no replies for days?

Personally I prefer to see new people engage in discussions ASAP.

When I first signed up I had no idea there was an "Introduce yourself" thread. My first post was met with a bit of a hostile answer from another new member. Nobody welcomed me either , but I'm still here. And you're all stuck with me now cause I like it here .
