Have you tried a hard reset to factory defaults? (ie. hold [HOME] during boot 'till the 'type reset' screen appears). If the update process crashed right at the beginning, your Kindle *should* still be in a non-compromised 3.0.2 state. But I can't say that for sure, so you may end up with a bit of a mess... :/.

And if you had the justification setting switched in the userstore, and not the system partition, that shouldn't have anything to do with the update process .

Yes, 15% progress on boy & tree screen. I never actually had the chance to restart from the Settings screen as directed. It was locked up as soon as I ejected it from the computer, showing the page I'd been reading when I plugged it in to the USB. I gave it a good minute or two to clear its head before attempting a hard reset, to no avail.

It finally appeared there was no alternative to factory reset, so I did that. And now I will be spending the next few hours getting everything back to where it was before (most of it was non-Amazon content).
