Jeff Lindsay's Dexter books are set in and around Miami. I'm currently reading Dexter is Delicious. I agree with others who've written that the series has never really been the same since the "midichlorian" explanation of the Dark Passenger, and Dexter is being seriously denatured, but the wordplay and wry observations still mostly work.
