Hi Glen,
nice gift for a cooking wife. Also a big gift. Important from the expense point of view and for the use of it. To be useful and appreciated in the daily use, which a gift like that deserves to be, it has to be just right.

If I were you, ah ah, I am not thanks to the gods, i would consider to eliminate the surprise factor from this particular gift. It makes its choice and implementation even more difficult than what it is. So you do what you knew all arond, you get her two gifts, the surprise one, and the cooking gimmick. This one you discuss with her, in all details. My self that I am the house cook, I would choose a large screen, connected to the net-book. If one thinks to a simple installation a net-book by toshiba that is specialized in tough equipment sounds the good choice.

It is not only the recipe ingredients and preparation, but the possibility of watching videos. The e-cooking is moving fast, you want your expensive gift to be appreciated as *you* deserve.

Nice gift

PS You will appreciate your daughter when she will make you a grandfather. Than you will understand why you did not ... her neck. My oldest is 35, and still a great pain in the neck. My youngest (3.5) is too nice to be worried. She owns the house and wants to do everything herself when I am cooking, so a net-book to keep her busy with some cartoons would be helpful.
